Troon International Impresses On The World Stage

Troon International, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing, is enjoying a stellar start to 2018, having already welcomed and announced several notable events at venues under its management around the globe.

Now a permanent fixture in the global golfing calendar at beginning of each year, the Middle East Swing was a key focus throughout January and February. The Home of Champions campaign kicked off the season at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Presented By EGA. Englishman Tommy Fleetwood picked up the title for the second time in as many years, in front of the event’s largest ever crowd.

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA is a European Tour golf tournament which began back in 2006. The competition unites some of the biggest champions in the world for 4 days of high intensity competition.

Following the championship, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club hosted the Gary Player Invitational, welcoming an impressive field of internationally-known personalities. With leading golfers, sports stars and celebrities coming together from around the world, alongside local amateur golfers, the event was a great success, raising a sum of $65,000 for the event’s chosen beneficiaries.

Looking towards events on the horizon, The Centurion Club is once again set to host The European Tour’s Golf Sixes event. This year’s edition is set for an innovative world first as European Ryder Cup Captain, Thomas Bjørn, and Solheim Cup Captain, Catriona Matthew, join forces to create a ‘Captain’s Team’. Set to be an exciting and hotly-contested tournament, 16 teams will compete for a total prize fund of €1 million, with the eventual winners receiving €100,000 each.

An exciting announcement this year came from the Troon managed Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, Saudi Arabia, whereby the European Tour will bring professional golf to the country for the first time. The venue, which held its Grand Opening over the weekend of April 28-29, will host the first of three annual European Tour events from January 31 to February 3 2019.

Looking ahead in 2018, the Els Club Desaru Coast is preparing to welcome the final of the World Amateur Golfer Championship, one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the world, in October. The event will be held across both courses at its Desaru Coast destination, The Ocean and Valley Courses, and, with over 40 countries participating, is set to be a thrilling competition.

One final partnership for 2018 has been the three-year agreement between the European Tour and Ras Al Khaimah, one of seven emirates which make up the UAE. The partnership will see the Challenge Tour, the European Tour’s feeder circuit, conclude at the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final, starting with the final event of the 2018 season. This year’s tournament will take place from October 31 to November 3 at Al Hamra Golf Club and will feature the top 45 players on the Challenge Tour.

“The major events staged at Troon venues already in 2018 have shone a spotlight on our unrivalled standards of quality and conditioning, and the feedback we received from international audiences following the likes of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship presented by EGA was phenomenal, said Mark Chapleski, President of Troon International. “We look forward to being able to showcase further Troon venues during a number of events still to come this year and enjoying the increase in enquiries and visitors as a result.”
