Troon Value: Passionately Unified With Marc Kantor

Marc Kantor, Raintree Athletic Director
Raintree Country Club, Charlotte, NC

Mac Kantor Standing in front of a Tennis Net at Raintree Country ClubQ: After working at Raintree for 28 years, I am sure you have seen your share of injuries from players. What is a good stretching or meditation series you like your students to partake in prior to starting their match or practice sessions?

A: The most common issues or injuries that I hear from tennis players are tennis elbow, shoulder pain and knee pain. A training program I like that can assist with these concerns includes strengthening the muscle groups around these key areas. I like to use resistance exercises either with bands, machines or free weights.  Given the quick and repetitive motions of tennis, it’s also very important to have a consistent stretching routine that addresses your quads, hamstrings, calves, and shoulders.  That said, people should consult with their medical professional before starting a new exercise program or if they are experiencing any pain or discomfort.

Q: What is a goal you have for yourself to promote better mental/physical wellbeing for you in 2024?

A: Working out (lifting weights or running) 3-4 times a week has always been an important part of my wellness routine.  I feel better mentally and physically after I’ve had a good workout.  Recently, I’ve started to drink a minimum of 4 liters of water per day.  Since I’ve started this habit, I have noticed a difference in my performance and recovery times during my workouts. I plan to continue this into 2024.

Q: What is one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know (that you don’t mind sharing)

A: Something that most people don’t know about me is that I was a National Punt Pass and Kick Football Champion when I was 8 years old. I never played a down of organized football before or after that. Was one of the greatest experiences of my life as I got to compete at Gilette Stadium and the Houston Astrodome and meet a lot of amazing people.
