Victoria Golf Resort Hosts continues to support #GrowTheGame initiatives, hosting HSBC Future Lions Golf Day
Victoria Golf Resort in Sri Lanka is continuing to find ways to support growth of the game locally, with initiatives to engage the next generations of golfer. Recently they hosted the “HSBC Future Lions Junior Golf Day” at the club, organized by Sri Lanka Golf in collaboration with HSBC.
Event Overview
Victoria Golf Resort partnered with Sri Lanka Golf to host the 3rd edition of the HSBC Future Lions Grassroots Program in Sri Lanka. The program aimed to introduce golf to children aged 9-12 across Sri Lanka and foster their passion for the sport through comprehensive training and development opportunities.
The program commenced at VGR with 96 participants (both girls and boys), including children from local schools, villages surrounding Kandy, and families of Victoria Golf Resort staff and members. The day featured coaching clinics conducted by local professionals.
Key Initiatives
A notable component of this year’s program was the “Girls on Par” initiative aimed at promoting gender equality in golf by encouraging young girls to actively participate in the sport. This initiative underscores VGR’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the golfing community.
Through specialized coaching and advanced training, more than 50 participants have advanced to compete in national and regional junior golf competitions, with several participants earning spots on the national junior squad.
