What Women’s Golf Month Means to Anna Darnell

Q#1: How long have you worked at the property and/or Troon in general and what has been your career progression thus far?

A:I started at The Grove when I was 23, 19 years ago which would have also been my first role with Troon as a Corporate Golf Sales Manager. Since starting at The Grove, I have been promoted seven times with the most memorable and honoring experiences when I was chosen by the board to become Director of Golf in 2016. Little did I know that I would continue my career path here to start taking on more hotel responsibilities and become Resort Director here six years later on.

Q#2: What do you love most about your job?

A: The family that has been created here at the hotel and the huge variety in my job everyday.

Q#3: What gives you the greatest challenge every day or in your job that you’re learning from?

A: Just the changes every year with having to think of new and exciting experiences to offer to keep our guests coming back and the changes we have to make personally in managing the team, differently to what we were used to before.

Q#4: What do you do to share the work opportunity with other women?

A: Personally I have had to step out of my comfort zone over the years and get up in front of a very male dominated environment to speak about how you can progress in a career in golf, and how being a female in this industry is unique and helps you stand out of a crowd, so embrace it.

Q#5: What is something that not many people know about you that you’d like to share?

A:I love to talk and I’m a bit of a sharer so I feel there’s not a lot people don’t know about me, I’m an open book! Apart from the fact I probably hide my addiction to Haribo more than people know!
