Costa Navarino Named “World’s Best Golf Venue” At 2023 World Golf Awards
October 26, 2023 – Costa Navarino, the sustainably driven destination in the Greek region of Messinia, southwest Peloponnese, has further established its position among the world’s premier golf destinations, after winning two of the leading honours at the 2023 World Golf Awards. During the prize-giving ceremony in Abu Dhabi, Costa Navarino received the coveted accolades of ‘World’s Best Golf Venue’ and ‘Europe’s Best Eco-Friendly Golf Facility’, in recognition of the destination’s continued sustainable commitment and its establishment as Europe’s newest golf destination.
As well as offering four 18-hole signature golf courses, the opening of the ultra-luxury Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino in the summer has further enhanced the hospitality offering. Together with The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, The Westin Resort Costa Navarino and W Costa Navarino, there is a wide choice across distinct resort areas. In addition, guests have access to Navarino Agora, a curated marketplace and incubator of art and culture showcasing a wide range of shops, street food, dining venues, outdoor cinema and live events. Furthermore, to a total of 40 gastronomy outlets, state-of-the-art sports facilities, world-class spas and numerous authentic experiences connecting guests to the Messinia region’s culture, history and nature.
Situated within a 13km maximum distance, the destination’s four golf courses – The Dunes Course, The Bay Course and the two new José María Olazábal -designed layouts at Navarino Hills, The Hills Course and International Olympic Academy Golf Course – feature contrasting natural landscape and sea views. All have been built in line with the sustainable practices of the destination, whereas Costa Navarino has further enhanced its environmental commitment this year by adopting a number of new initiatives.
The total grass areas that need to be irrigated on the Bay and Dunes courses have been reduced by five and ten per cent respectively, while the destination has partnered with WWF Greece with the aim to limit single-use plastics across its resorts and operations, noting that in 2022, managed to reduce the use of single use plastics by 38%, compared to its usage in 2019.
Costa Navarino has also achieved an 80% reduction in emissions, as part of the destination’s broader decarbonization strategy, as a result of initiatives such as electricity supply from renewable sources, the reduction of LPG use, as well as the reduction of energy consumption per stay, and is aiming to achieve net-zero operations for the destination’s facilities by 2050.
