Press release: las-colinas-golf-country-club-ready-to-impress-as-tour-school-returns-in-november.jpg

An upgraded five-star experience awaits players at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club this autumn as the top Spanish resort prepares for the return of international golf.

The award-winning resort will be hosting Stage Two of the DP World Tour Qualifying School for the ninth successive occasion but for the first time since 2019 after the tournament was postponed the last two years due to the pandemic.

Designed by Cabell B. Robinson, Las Colinas’ 18-hole championship golf course is a firm favourite among golfers for its wide fairways and extensive undulating greens, and the players will find it in outstanding condition when they head to the resort for the 72-hole event from November 1-6.

Among the improvements taking place, the resort in the middle of a two-year renovation programme of all the bunkers using the ‘Better Billy Bunker’ system employed by a collection of the world’s most prestigious golf venues including 2022 US Open host Brookline, Gleneagles, Oakland Hills and Whistling Straits – venue for the 2021 Ryder Cup.

In addition, Las Colinas – which also hosted the 2019 Spanish Amateur Golf Championship – has adopted a rewilding policy across its the 13th and 15th holes over the last 12 months, not only redesigning the layout in a move to not only improve the course condition but also to reduce the amount of water, organic fertilisers and maintenance needed, helping to create new natural wildlife habitats for animals that live on the course to thrive.

The resort has planted native trees and shrubs and started the turf conversion to a native plant area, while sprinkler irrigation in these areas will change to drip irrigation for trees and remove irrigation completely at the second stage. The work undertaken will reduce the amount of water needed per year as well as cutting energy costs.

Javier Rodriguez, Operations Manager at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, said: “It’s always a pleasure to host the game’s elite players but this year will be extra special after the events of the last few years.

“It’s a privilege for the resort to have been chosen again to stage such an important professional event, and we’re confident that the course improvements that we are making will help to keep Las Colinas at the forefront of European golf.”

Nestled in a 330-hectare valley and just a 50-minute drive south of Alicante, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is regarded among Europe’s most sought-after golf destinations after being voted as ‘Spain’s Best Golf Course’ and ‘World’s Leading Golf & Villa Resort’ at the 2021 World Golf Awards.

Enjoying more than 300 days of sunshine a year, the resort is surrounded by a natural park of 10,000 hectares and is only six kilometres away from the Spanish Mediterranean coastline.

As well as an 18-hole championship golf course and outstanding practice facilities including Toptracer technology on the driving range and a short-game area designed by Miguel Angel Jimenez, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club offers a wide-range of comprehensive leisure facilities including a golf academy, padel and tennis academy, WOW Beach on the seafront, a gym and a wellness area.

The impressive culinary offering at the resort includes three restaurants – stylish Italian restaurant il Palco, Japanese, Nikkei and Mexican fusion cuisine at umawa and an international menu at unik, made with fresh produce – to give residents and guests an opportunity to enjoy a healthy Mediterranean lifestyle to the fullest.
