Oaks Prague Continues To Successfully Develop Fully-fledged Residential And Leisure Spaces
The site will also feature an additional public amenity – the newly renovated Nebřenice Chateau
Prague, 11th October 2022 – After the first apartment and family houses received their occupancy permits, the opening of the park, restaurant, and La Bottega Deli Bistro shop, Oaks Prague is now expanding its services and amenities for future residents. In the completely renovated listed building of the 19th century Nebřenice Chateau, the PGA National Czech Republic golf club is opening a bar, facilities for cultural events as well as an open-kitchen restaurant. Under the banner of Chapman Taylor architects, a unique interior space has been created with a host of distinctive design elements consistent with Oaks Prague’s high standards.
“Nebřenice Chateau, which for decades has been falling into despair and was under threat of demolition, has now been completely repurposed as a golf club as part of the PGA National Czech Republic golf course and Oaks Prague and was opened for business from 1st October. The extensive and challenging renovation of the whole building was instigated on the basis of a design by London-based architect John Pawson, who already has the award-winning restoration of the Nový Dvůr monastery in Karlovy Vary behind him. The concept was developed and the design, including the interior, was completed by architectural studio Chapman Taylor, who were responsible for the well-known Flow Building in the centre of Prague, among others,” explained Jan Zemánek, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Arendon, the developer of Oaks Prague.
An open-kitchen restaurant, which will be run by established gastronomy company La Collezione, also known as La Bottega, La Finestra, will be partially operational from 1st October and fully operational from spring 2023. On the ground floor of the newly renovated chateau, guests will also find a bar and stylish lounge with a fireplace lined with exotic stone, plus a golf shop with a wide range of clothing and equipment. A complex of comfortable changing rooms and a golf simulator are also located on the first floor. Via the suspended metal staircase with terrazzo steps, we move up to the castle loft which has been uniquely adapted into a multi-purpose space to be used for private dining functions, business meetings, presentations, private events, and similar activities.
“The design and quality of the PGA National Czech Republic golf course, alongside our first-class services, have been considered among the very best in the region since our opening in 2019. The opening of the renovated castle is another key step in the development of the golf club, further amplifying the ‘Troon experience’ that our guests can sample at Oaks Prague. We will be looking to continue to raise the standards of services across Central Europe and look forward to welcoming guests here,” added Paul Dennis, Director of the PGA National Czech Republic.
The renovation required significant interventions in terms of the structural stability of the building, the castle was partially rebuilt to accommodate its new function, but its historical form was restored. “The vertical and horizontal structures, the barrel vaults, and vaulted arches were preserved both on the ground and first floors,” said Andrej Tušan of the Prague branch of Chapman Taylor studios, who was behind the interior design solution. He added, “Among the sensitively incorporated design elements was the modern metal staircase between the first floor and loft, which was intentionally devised to provide a contrast in design with the original stone staircase and refurbished banister between the ground floor and first floor.”
As part of the renovation of the facades, the decorative elements and adornments which correspond to the original 19th century appearance of the building when it was constructed as a hunting lodge for the von Schüttelsberg family, were returned. The entire renovation was carried out in close cooperation with preservationists.
From a usability perspective, the castle is now a fully-functional building that meets the needs of the 21st-century operation. “Our goal is not just to develop and modernise the whole Oaks Prague site and the surrounding area, but also to contribute to the preservation of cultural sites, the cultivation of natural processes including maintaining wildlife corridors, and in doing so, create pleasant surroundings both for Oaks residents and for guests and neighbours from nearby towns and villages who may wish spend time there. We are pleased that the whole area is starting to come alive and be opened up to the public in the knowledge that the original plan to create a unique place to live with services and a full range of amenities is one step closer to being completed successfully,” concludes Jan Zemánek.
