Shreveport, Louisiana (September 19, 2023) – Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, Louisiana recently welcomed Richard ‘Ricky’ Rogers as the private club’s new general manager. Rogers will oversee all elements of Southern Trace, including club facilities, programming, staff training and development, and membership sales.

A 30-plus year veteran of the golf and hospitality industries, Rogers comes to Southern Trace from nearby East Ridge Country Club where he has served as general manager since 2007. In 1995, Rogers launched his career in the private club sector when he accepted the general manager position at the Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club in Shreveport. He served as Pierremont Oaks’ general manager for 12 years before moving to East Ridge.

“We are overjoyed that Ricky has accepted to serve as general manager of our club,” said Alexander Mijalis, president of the board of Southern Trace Country Club. “Ricky, in our opinion, completes the strongest leadership and management team possible for Southern Trace. His hiring strengthens our dedication to giving our members a first-class club experience.”

A graduate of Louisiana Tech University and pillar of the Shreveport community, Rogers continues to play a significant role in community affairs in the Shreveport-Bossier City region. He is a current member of the Better Business Bureau’s Board of Directors and formerly served on the boards of the C.E. Byrd Foundation and the Northwest Louisiana Tennis Association, while also coaching YMCA basketball and Shreveport Little League baseball. In 2014, the Shreveport Optimists Club named Rogers Mr. Shreveport. This past May, Rogers was named as an Honorary Commander of the 307th Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base.

Southern Trace recently completed phase one of a multiphase clubhouse renovation project. Phase one included upgrades to the club’s fitness facility, installation of a new Trackman simulator room and the opening of a new childcare facility. Phase two of the clubhouse renovation project is expected to begin in 2024 and will include enhanced dining facilities as well as new banquet space for member-related functions.

Southern Trace’s clubhouse renovation comes on the heels of a $4.2 million golf course renovation and enhancement project, completed in July of 2022. The two-year golf course project focused on irrigation and drainage system upgrades, green complex enhancements and the addition of a new short game practice area. Golf course designer and Southern Trace member Jim Lipe oversaw the course renovation.

Established in 1988, Southern Trace Country Club features a beautiful Arthur Hills-designed golf course that plays through open meadows and a dense oak forest. The 7,015-yard golf course has appeared atop Golf Digest’s ranking of top courses in Louisiana several times and has a proud history of hosting high-level professional and amateur tournaments, including the WEB.Com Tour’s Southern Open from 1990-2002, multiple state amateur championships and the AJGA David Toms Junior Invitational. In addition to an award-winning golf course, Southern Trace members also enjoy a host of club amenities, including eight tennis courts and a resort-style swimming pool complex. Arthur’s Bar and Grill overlooks the first hole, has two outdoor patios to dine al fresco and multiple televisions.

Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon®, manages golf, club and food & beverage operations as well golf course agronomy and membership marketing at Southern Trace Country Club.
