The Monster Golf Club Reopens For Public Play

Monticello, N.Y. (September 12, 2023) – Monster Golf Club in Monticello, New York recently reopened for public play following a $40 million investment from Resorts World Catskills (RWC). The former Concord Monster Course, once listed as a Golf Digest Top 100 golf course, has been closed for play since 2015. The late summer/early fall preview season will allow golfers to experience the completely redesigned golf course by Rees Jones during a picturesque time to visit the Catskill Mountains. Troon Golf, the resort and daily-fee division of Troon is managing the golf operations, agronomy, retail, and sales and marketing for the course located adjacent to the beautiful RWC casino resort property.

During the nearly five-year redesign project, Jones used holes and corridors from the former Monster Golf Course, originally designed by Joe Finger in 1963, and the Old International Course to create the all-new 18-hole layout. Similar to the former Monster, the new Jones-design will tip out at 7,650 yards from the ‘Monster Tees’ and will play to a par of 72, challenging low-handicappers with its length and large undulating greens. However, six sets of tees will ensure the new golf course is less scary and more enjoyable for all golfers.

“The opening of any golf course is a special time, but to do it in the picturesque Catskills and to be able to combine the elements of two celebrated golf courses makes this a truly remarkable occasion,” said Monster Golf Club Director of Golf Uri Jimenez. “The magic of Rees Jones is omnipresent throughout the course’s 18 holes and the hospitality excellence of Troon Golf and Resorts World Catskills will offer golfers an unrivaled experience at the Monster Golf Club.”

Golfers playing The Monster will ride in the newest state-of-the-art E-Z-GO golf carts equipped with lithium-ion and GPS technology. The well-appointed and fully stocked golf shop is located inside The Alder, Resorts World Catskills’ newest boutique lifestyle hotel.

“The grand reopening of the Monster Golf Club is a milestone moment for Resorts World Catskills as it completes the vision we had for this amazing property,” said Robert DeSalvio, President, Genting Americas East. “We are proud to deliver on the commitment we made to the Catskills community to reimagine and reinvigorate this storied golf course in partnership with the legendary Rees Jones. We can’t wait to welcome golfers from around the world to face the Monster!”

The Monster Golf Club and Resorts World Catskills are located approximately two hours from Manhattan, making it an ideal destination to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. For more information or to book a tee time, visit https://rwcatskills.com/monster-golf-club.
