Winston Wang Wins Sonoran Amateur At The Club At Starr Pass

TUCSON, Arizona – Winston Wang (Coto de Caza, CA) parred the first playoff hole (hole 18) to win the Sonoran Amateur at The Club at Starr Pass on Saturday. Wang shot a final-round two-under par 70 to finish at -9 in a playoff with Canada’s Maxim Mckenzie. Both players birdied their final holes (also the 18th) to move the final total to -9. Mckenzie hit his approach to a tap-in and Wang had to convert a 7-foot birdie to force the playoff. Both players were just past the green in the playoff. Wang had a tap-in par but Mckenzie missed a short putt that would have forced a second hole. Wang and Mckenzie ended up being four shots clear of Ajay Morris (Avondale, AZ) who shot a final round 70 to finish at -5. Second round leader Adam Miller (Phoenix) shot a final round 76 to finish in a five-way tie for 4th.
