World Golf Village To Host Golf Tournament To Benefit Ovarian Cancer Research And Awareness
St. Augustine, Fla. (September 14, 2022) – September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and The World Golf Village Resort is helping to spread the word and raise money for ovarian cancer research with the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament. This charity golf event will take place at the World Golf Village’s King & Bear golf course on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 12 p.m. with 100 percent of proceeds collected through donations going to ovarian cancer research. The Jacksonville Mayo Clinic Ovarian Cancer Research program will be the local benefactor.
According to the National Cancer Institute, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in women in the United States. Research is so important because there is currently no reliable early detection test to screen for ovarian cancer. Additionally, symptoms can be vague and easily attributed to other causes, which increases the likelihood that women will experience a misdiagnosis or late diagnosis.
“This cause is near and dear to us because one of our owner’s, Bob Barrett’s wife Babs, has been courageously fighting ovarian cancer since 2018,” said World Golf Village Resort General Manager Lon Grundy. “We are eager to help the cause in any way we can.”
The entry fee for this 4-person scramble tournament is $150 per player and includes green fees, cart fees, lunch, an awards reception, hole prizes, and flight prizes. The charity event will also include an optional 50\50 raffle and charity auction. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, September 21st, 2022, at 12 noon. For more information and to register online visit https://www.golfwgv.com/golf/awareness.
In addition to the charity golf tournament, both World Golf Village courses (King & Bear and Slammer & Squire) are offering other ways to support the cause – with a “Drink of the Month” and “Golf TEAL Dark” specials. The drink of the month features a handcrafted TEALmule, which is available at both clubhouses for a $10 donation. The “Golf TEAL Dark” special allows golfers to play a walking round of golf at King & Bear or Slammer & Squire after 3:30 PM daily. Golfers may play much as they can TEAL dark for only a $25 donation. 100 percent of proceeds collected from donations will go to ovarian cancer research. The Jacksonville Mayo Clinic Ovarian Cancer Research program will be the local benefactor.
